Why this exists

“Can this be deposited?” has to be answered before the deposit, because a deposit is public and permanent and the undo button does not fully exist. This lab’s data makes the question live rather than theoretical: ERCOT data arrives under use agreements, industry partners supply material flows under NDA, and DOE-funded work can carry its own handling requirements. A student who deposits an NDA dataset has created a problem that lands on their advisor and their sponsor, not on them.

External material

DMPTool — templates matched to specific funders, including DOE and NSF. Your award’s own Data Management Plan, which already exists and which most students have never read. Ask for it.

Governing part

None directly. Skill 21’s deposit is governed by the standard; what you are permitted to put in it is governed by the agreements, which are not a code question.

The mechanic

Write a one-page data statement for your own datasets. For each:

The last line is the one that matters to the lab and the one students skip.

Deliverable

One-page data statement, PDF.

Competency check

Turning it in

This replaces your arithmetic entry for the week you do it. Submit it to that week’s WA assignment in Canvas — the same one you would have submitted anyway. It is not an extra piece of work on top of the log.

You do not submit anything to the milestone yet. When all four skills in M6 are done, submit the M6 — Stewardship assignment, which is just an index saying which week each one went in.
